We do not use the term ‘hottest’ lightly as stoners, hemp heads, MMJ patients and marijuana aficionados all took the challenge of immense Sin City heat to Las Vegas Hempfest. This event had everything from all styles of artwork from local artists, medicinal marijuana companies, marijuana cultivators, head shop vendor booths, and two stages featuring old school performances with a mix of rising artists. The vendor area provided glass pipes, bongs, Davinci Vaporizer’s portable herb vaporizer, tons of informative industry representatives as well as a huge push for voter registration to get behind the movement of legalizing marijuana.
After all the real spirit behind this festival has always been to educate and what better way to do so then to speak with experts. Medizin and Cannacopia, as well as a few other local dispensaries, spread knowledge in the medical cannabis industry as well made it fun with games, cool free swag and even guests like Kurupt from The Dogg Pound with his much loved Moon Rocks. If you didn’t get to taste the Canna Energy drink with its incredible hemp infused energy beverage then you must look into your local gas station or quick mart and pick one up! The Mango flavored one is no joke delicious. Davinci Vaporizer set if off for a third time with games and prizes while showcasing the Ascent portable vaporizer makes vaporizing loose leaf herbs a true transcendent experience. Another really awesome showing came from the local artists in the area. These artists brought out their finest pieces and some even painted art throughout the day, but don’t worry if you missed them, some are easily spotted at every First Friday on downtown’s Fremont Experience.
After all of that early day walking, munchies were easily on the top of everyone’s mind and the food trucks that were lined up brought a necessary solution for every type of craving. Authentic tacos, juicy burgers, fat burritos and fruity snow cones were available and definitely worth standing in line just to satisfy a worked up hunger. The best part was that the options were plentiful and there never was too long of a line to wait in.
Once you have taken care of business, bought some glass and explored all of the many different strands, clothing and art, it was time to get to the real action. From fine looking ladies with the shortest shorts to dolled up 420Nurses, there was a level of eye candy that was just phenomenal. Let’s all take a moment and truly thank the Las Vegas sun for allowing the embracing of good clean half naked fun. Especially at about 4:20 in the afternoon when the HOT Miss Hempfest competition took place. This contest was stacked with such insatiable ladies that it must have been real difficult to pick one clear winner, however, a special congratulation goes out to Bambu Jessica for claiming Miss HempFest 2016!
A stacked lineup over multiple stages really set the tone for a day filled with a spectrum of sounds. Let’s just say it was a most creative lineup of artists from hip-hop legends, rock, alternative, and EDM. The smaller stage featured up and coming band and a psychedelic Pink Floyd Experience performance that truly left you feeling euphoric.
Kurupt and Daz Dillinger from The Dogg Pound took the stage in the late afternoon and set the pace for an exciting lineup on the main stage. Mod Sun jumped on shortly after and pumped the crowd full of high energy sound while tossing out goodies off the stage to an eager crowd below. Returning once again with his memorable double neck guitar, Afroman brought back his hits filling the crowd with good vibes and smoke filled chants. Then to change the pace, Eric Wilson, original bassist from Sublime, brought back those hits that remind you of chillin in the backyard with a cold one and some good friends nearby. If at this point you think you have seen enough, you are mistaken, Dizzy Wright featuring DJ GMBT’s performance was off the hook and the show came to a close with legendary hip-hop artist Too $hort.
Through the heat, smoke filled audience, marijuana culture at the highest level and great musicians one can only wonder what will be in store for LV Hempfest 2017! See you next time.
